Nations - 280 AMP Alternator Charging System Upgrade (280A, Wakespeed Advanced Regulator) | Winnebago Revel

https://www.overlanddesignbuild.com/web/image/product.template/1592/image_1920?unique=8183619

Purpose-built for 2021–2023 Revels with the 3.0 L V6, this kit is a direct replacement for the OEM auxiliary charging system.

Purpose-built for 2024 Revels with the 2.0 L four-cylinder turbo-diesel, this kit is a direct replacement for the OEM auxiliary charging system.

For the 2020 Revel, this kit adds a second alternator. It needs a lithium house battery, and ODB checks your van's factory options by VIN before ordering.

For the 2018–2019 Revel, this kit adds the second alternator these vans did not have from the factory. It needs a lithium house battery.

Key Benefits & Features:
  • Rock-Solid Reliability
Fleet-grade components built to thrive in harsh, off-road conditions.
  • Massive 280-amp hairpin alternator delivers roughly 3,500 watts of charging power, slashing generator or shore-power time
  • Clutch-Type Pulley Pre-Installed
Stops belt slip and protects the front-end accessory drive when pulling big amps
  • Wakespeed WS500 advanced external regulator controls charging using battery current, voltage, and temperature for the fastest, safest multi-stage profiles on lithium (LiFePO₄) battery banks
  • Smart-system ready — CAN-bus PH-CAN harness talks natively to Lithionics, Victron, and other BMS/monitoring networks; Bluetooth app and USB make firmware updates or fine-tuning easy
  • High-efficiency, run-all-day construction: 6-phase 12-diode rectifier, dual internal cooling fans, and heat-shedding ceramic/e-coat finish keep temps low under continuous full-field loads
  • Idle charging set for your engine: ODB sets the WS500's idle charging for your engine: topping up at low engine speed where the engine allows it, and holding off at idle where it doesn't.
  • Integrated alternator & battery temperature sensing automatically rolls back output to protect components and extend service life
  • Ignition-protected (SAE J1171) and isolated-ground compatible for safe use around fuel systems and modern common-rail diesels
  • Supports large battery banks (ideal for 400-600 Ah lithium at 12 V) and pairs perfectly with high-draw inverters, air-conditioning, or induction cooktops
  • Complete kit in one box: 280XP alternator, WS500 regulator, PH-CAN van harness, and mounting hardware — backed by a two-year limited warranty and lifetime tech support

For the 2021–2023 Revel, 3.0 L V6

Replaces the factory second alternator: a direct replacement for the OEM auxiliary charging system.

In the kit

  • Nations 280XP alternator, rated 280 A
  • Wakespeed WS500 regulator with its CAN harness and van harness
  • Gates K060523HD serpentine belt

Before you order

  • Your house battery brand, how many you have, their capacity, and whether they talk over CAN. ODB programs the regulator to match.

For the 2024 Revel, 2.0 L four-cylinder

Replaces the factory second alternator: a direct replacement for the OEM auxiliary charging system.

In the kit

  • Nations 280XP alternator in the version built for this engine
  • Wakespeed WS500 regulator with its CAN harness and van harness
  • Mercedes-Benz A0009935800 serpentine belt

Before you order

  • Your house battery brand, how many you have, their capacity, and whether they talk over CAN. ODB programs the regulator to match.

For the 2020 Revel

Adds a second alternator to your van.

In the kit

  • Nations mounting bracket and 280XP alternator, rated 280 A
  • Wakespeed WS500 regulator and van harness
  • Serpentine belt and mounting hardware from the Nations kit
  • Alternator-to-battery cable and fuse, sized by ODB for your van

Before you order

  • A lithium house battery. Vans still on the factory AGM batteries need a battery upgrade first.
  • No second alternator yet. If your van already has one, factory or aftermarket, contact us: that job is quoted separately.
  • Your VIN. ODB checks the Mercedes data card for factory second-alternator prep, which changes the parts.
  • Your house battery brand, how many you have, their capacity, and whether they talk over CAN. ODB programs the regulator to match.

For the 2018–2019 Revel

Adds the second alternator these vans did not have from the factory.

In the kit

  • Nations mounting bracket and 280XP alternator, rated 280 A
  • Wakespeed WS500 regulator and van harness
  • Serpentine belt and mounting hardware from the Nations kit

How the options compare

The first column is the factory Balmar setup on later Revels. A van with Xantrex batteries and no Balmar label left the factory with a Xantrex alternator instead.

Questions

Why does my second alternator stop charging when it's hot, or after I run the A/C?

Often a temperature limit is doing its job: the alternator, the battery sensor, or the battery itself is saying stop. An alternator that was replaced and charges well when cold can still do this. Ask what it was replaced with, check the connections, and measure hot output before buying parts.

Is there a recall on the Revel's Balmar alternator?

No. NHTSA recall 23V-663 addresses cables near the lithium batteries that can contact the battery hold-down brackets and short.

How do I check which recall, campaign, or bulletin applies to my VIN, and should I finish it first?

Give your Winnebago dealer your VIN and ask for open recalls, completed campaigns, and whether the Nations retrofit bulletin applies. Complete open safety recalls before an upgrade. Tell us what was done so we configure the system around it.

How does Winnebago's Nations retrofit differ from ODB's system?

Winnebago's bulletin describes a Nations replacement alternator kit supplied without a regulator or harness; Winnebago reimburses the dealer for the kit only, with no labor. ODB's system pairs the Nations 280XP with a Wakespeed WS500 regulator configured to your battery. Ask your dealer about eligibility and cost, then compare.

Can a loose or corroded battery terminal cause charging problems?

Yes. Resistance at a terminal causes voltage drop and heat, and heat can trip temperature protection. If you also see voltage drop between the battery and inverter, check and correct the connections before replacing parts.

What will the Nations 280XP and Wakespeed WS500 put out?

Nations rates the 280XP at 280 A. Real output depends on engine speed, heat, and how the regulator is configured. We plan to add measured idle and highway numbers once we have enough controlled readings across vans.

Will a bigger alternator overload my battery, BMS, or wiring?

Regulator configuration plus correct cable and fuse sizing is what prevents that. The WS500 also monitors battery temperature to protect the battery from over- and under-temperature. We size the output to the battery, cables, and fuse, not to the alternator's maximum.

Which Revels does the ODB kit fit?

The kit replaces the factory second alternator on 2021–2023 Revels with the 3.0 L V6, and adds one to the 2018–2020 Revel with a lithium house battery. It also fits 2024 Revels on the 2.0 L four-cylinder turbo-diesel. 2025+ Revel and 2025+ Revel Sport: this upgrade isn't offered; contact us to talk through options.
